ISSUES:

Illegal Immigration

Constituents send me more letters and e-mail about immigration than any other issue. Most encourage me to support bills or ideas to reduce, eliminate, or desensitize those who are in or came to the U.S. illegally. A few argue that the benefits of illegal immigrants are greater than the cost.

LATEST NEWS:

July 13, 2011

Dear Constituents and Friends:

Thank you for allowing me to be your public servant for almost forty years. First for thirty years on the Dallas County Commissioners Court and more recently what will be eight years as a member of the Texas House of Representatives. However, there is always a time to begin and a time to end. Before seeking this last term I knew it would lead to a difficult legislative session that would include redistricting and necessary but difficult budget decisions. I also knew it would probably be my last term.

Everyday as I walked from our condo to the Capital I prayed "Lord let me be relevant". I believe God did. As Chairman of Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence I authored or joint authored and /or helped shape bills on Private Property Rights, Tort Reform, Stopping employment of Children in sex establishments, Statewide Court Reorganization, Barratry, and others. Although the legislature failed to successfully address some important issues and some of my personal agenda did not become law; Overall it was a great session for me. And a great one to end on. I also had great staff.

I will not be a candidate for re-election to the Texas House in the 2012 elections. Nor do I plan to seek any other office.

When preparing to leave Commissioners Court after 30 years, I said this simple prayer; "Lord my future is in your hands; If you have other plans for me I am ready; But if not retirement sounds good". Now, after what will be eight years in the legislature I have repeated that prayer.

God willing, Sue and I are looking forward to an active private life in which we share time with each other, our family, and our friends.

May God continue to bless us all and may God continue to bless Texas.

Respectfully,

Jim Jackson
